# Berlin: map, what to do and when to go

Berlin, Germany's capital, is visited for what the 20th century left: the line of the Wall, memorials, museums and the old Tempelhof airport. With about 3.9 million residents, it was rebuilt on the ruins of the war and on the line of the Wall, which split it from 1961 to 1989.

**Berlin: What's the climate like and how much does it rain?**
The climate is continental and the sun is scarce: there are about 1,600 hours of sunshine a year and 570 mm of rain well spread across the twelve months, which means it rains a little almost always and never enough to become a topic of conversation.

**Berlin: Can I cross on a red light?**
No: you get a fine, even if a small one, and the disapproval is immediate, with a hard stare and, if there's a child nearby, a remark said out loud.
