**Ho Chi Minh City: how do you call a waiter or someone on the street?**
There's no neutral “you”: use “em ơi” for someone younger, “anh ơi” for a man older than you, “chị ơi” for an older woman, and “cô/chú ơi” for someone your parents' age. That's how you call the waiter, and that's how a polite conversation starts.

**Ho Chi Minh City: is the city safe?**
Ho Chi Minh City is safe from violent crime compared with Brazilian cities, and the real, frequent risk is something else: snatch theft from motorbikes. A phone in your hand near the curb, a bag on the shoulder facing the street, and an open backpack are the three classic targets.
