The dam is 45 km southeast on US-93, 40 minutes by car, and the powerhouse tour descends 160 m by elevator. Along the way, Boulder City, built in 1931 for the workers, remains to this day one of only two Nevada cities where gambling is banned.

**Las Vegas: what are the most common scams?**
The most common scams are four: the "free ticket to a show" pitch that ends in a two-hour timeshare presentation, VIP club entry sold on the sidewalk, taxi fares that ignore the rate that actually applies, and photos with costumed characters whose price only comes up afterward.
