**Osaka: what's the currency and how much do things cost?**
The currency is the yen (JPY, ¥), and the 10% consumption tax is already in the tagged price, so what's shown is what you pay. 2026 ranges: coffee at a café ¥400 to 600; convenience store onigiri ¥150 to 250; business lunch (teishoku) ¥900 to 1,400; bowl of ramen ¥900 to 1,300; izakaya dinner with two drinks ¥3,000 to 5,000; large beer at a bar ¥600 to 800; budget hotel ¥9,000 to 18,000 a night for two, hostel bed ¥3,000 to 5,000.

**Osaka: what's the best time to go?**
October and November are the best months, and the ones I'd choose: 15 to 22°C, little rain, and autumn foliage in late November.
