# Queenstown: map, what to do and when to go

In Queenstown you pay to bungy jump, ride the gondola up, and go jetboating, and the view of the lake and the mountains is free. With 29,000 residents on Lake Wakatipu, 291 km², at the foot of The Remarkables range, the city was born from gold in 1862 and lives on tourism.
