The summer palace that Markus Sittikus had built from 1612 to 1615, south of the city, is worth visiting for its Mannerist water games: grottoes, automata and a mechanical theater driven by water, and jets that soak visitors by surprise, on a tour of about 50 minutes, with departures every 15 or 20 minutes. The €16.50 ticket includes the palace and the folk art museum. **Salzburg: How do you get from the airport to the center?**
Trolleybus (O-Bus) 10 takes you to the Rathaus stop in the Altstadt in about 20 minutes, and the 2 goes to the central station in about 21. The trolleybus does not sell tickets on board: buy beforehand, at the airport machine or in the Salzburg Verkehr app.

**Salzburg: How many days should you stay?**
Stay two days in the city and a third for the region. Hallstatt I'd leave for a fourth day, because the bus takes more than two hours each way and the village is always crowded.

**Salzburg: Is the Salzburg Card worth it?**
Anyone doing three or four paid admissions on the same day, such as the fortress, Mozart's birthplace and Hellbrunn, spends more than the €38 of the 24-hour Salzburg Card from April to October (€35 from November to March), which gives one free admission to each and urban transport.

**Salzburg: Can you get to Hallstatt and back in a day without a car?**
The most direct route is bus 150 or 150X to Bad Ischl and, from there, buses 541 and 543, changing at Gosaumühle, to Hallstatt Lahn: 2 to 2 hours 40 minutes. In searches for a weekday in October 2026, to return the same day, the last practical connection left Hallstatt Lahn at 7:03 p.m. and reached Salzburg station at 9:09 p.m. Check your day’s timetable in the ÖBB planner before going.

**Salzburg: What closes in November?**
Hellbrunn and the Eisriesenwelt close in early November, the Untersberg stops from November 2 to December 13, 2026, and the fortress funicular from November 9 to 13, when the fortress museums and interior rooms also close. Anyone arriving in late fall should swap outdoor outings for museums and concerts.
