Who it is for
For anyone who wants two of the best-known historic sites in the Middle East in less than a week.
Not for anyone who dislikes planning, since in Jerusalem the day of the week changes what is open.
The strategy
Petra comes first, with the Siq planned around opening hours. Before booking the continuation to Jerusalem, check the travel and entry conditions that apply to you, border operation and transport on both sides. Count the crossing day in the itinerary; in Jerusalem, check each place’s calendar as well as the day of the week.
What you will see
- Al-Khazneh, Petra. A facade about 39 m tall, carved between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD, probably the tomb of King Aretas IV.
- Western Wall, Jerusalem. Exposed section of the Herodian retaining wall of the Esplanade, with 57 m visible in the plaza and another 300 m in the tunnel excavated to the north.
