Who it is for

For anyone who wants the three Scandinavian capitals during the long northern summer.

Not for anyone traveling on a small budget, since all three are among the most expensive cities in Europe.

The strategy

Copenhagen comes first, and the train crosses into Sweden to Stockholm. Oslo closes the trip, a short flight away or about five hours by train.

What you will see

  • Nyhavn, Copenhagen. Canal dug between 1670 and 1673 by Swedish prisoners to bring ships into the center.
  • Vasa Museum, Stockholm. It houses the only 17th-century warship preserved almost whole: the Vasa, 69 m long with 64 cannons, sank about 1,300 m from the quay on its maiden voyage, on August 10, 1628, and was raised from the bottom of the harbor in 1961.
  • Operahuset, Oslo. National opera house opened in April 2008, designed by the Snøhetta firm.
