Who it is for
For anyone who wants the great historic sites of the Middle East in a single trip.
Not for anyone who prefers not to deal with borders, since this means three countries and two crossings.
The strategy
Egypt comes first, with Cairo and Luxor, followed by Petra and Jerusalem. Continuing overland from Jordan depends on travel conditions, the documents that apply to you and operation of the chosen border crossing; check everything before booking. Count connections, transfers and the crossing within the ten days, and choose Jerusalem visits around each place’s calendar.
What you will see
- Giza pyramids and the Sphinx, Cairo. Three 4th Dynasty pyramids (about 2560–2510 BCE).
- Karnak, Luxor. Ancient Egypt's largest religious complex, with about 2 km² built and rebuilt over 1,500 years.
- The Siq, Petra. A gorge about 1.2 km long with walls up to 180 m, functioning as the ceremonial entrance to the city.
- Western Wall, Jerusalem. Exposed section of the Herodian retaining wall of the Esplanade, with 57 m visible in the plaza and another 300 m in the tunnel excavated to the north.
