Who it is for

For anyone who wants Spain and a first taste of Morocco on the same trip.

Not for anyone who dislikes haggling, since that is how you buy in Marrakech's souks.

The strategy

Madrid and Seville come first, connected by high-speed train. From Seville, a short flight crosses the strait to Marrakech.

What you will see

  • Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid. One of the largest art museums in the world, opened in 1819 in the neoclassical building Juan de Villanueva designed in 1785.
  • Real Alcázar, Seville. The oldest royal palace still in use in Europe, with layers from the 10th to the 19th century; the core is Pedro I's Mudéjar palace, from 1364–1366, with the Hall of Ambassadors.
  • Jemaa el-Fna, Marrakesh. A square of about 4 ha, in continuous use since the 11th century, between the medina and the kasbah.
