Who it is for
For anyone with two weeks who wants the Andes of Peru and Bolivia in one trip.
Not for anyone sensitive to altitude, since Cusco, La Paz, and Uyuni all sit above 3,300 m.
The strategy
Peru comes first, from Lima to Machu Picchu via Cusco. Keep the first days at altitude gentle and adjust the stages to your adaptation; staying in Cusco does not guarantee acclimatization for La Paz and Uyuni. Bolivia follows, with the salt-flat crossing arranged from Uyuni.
What you will see
- Museo Larco, Lima. In Pueblo Libre, inside an 18th-century mansion built on top of a huaca.
- Cusco Cathedral, Cusco. Built between 1560 and 1654 over the Kiswarkancha palace, with blocks taken from Saqsaywaman.
- Casa del Guardián, Machu Picchu. The shelter with its restored thatched roof stands high in the agricultural sector, near the stone known as the Funerary Rock.
- Plaza Murillo, La Paz. The central square since the 16th century, with the metropolitan cathedral completed in 1925, the Palacio Quemado (burned in 1875 and rebuilt) and the Casa Grande del Pueblo, a 29-story tower opened in 2018.
- Salar de Uyuni, Uyuni Salt Flat. The world's largest salt flat covers 10,582 km² of salt crust at 3,656 m.
